Users and permissions

This part of the guides is for administrators. It covers the people who sign in to EVX Software at your firm and what each of them can see and change.

What you will find here

  • User management: add users, update their details, and deactivate the ones who no longer need access.
  • Groups: give the same permissions to several people together, such as a field team or the billing staff.
  • Permissions and access control: how each person's access is decided, and how to change it.
  • Role defaults and maximums: what each role receives by default and the most it can ever be given.

How it fits together

Every user has a role. The role sets the most access that person can have, and the default access they receive when their account is created. Within that limit, access comes from the person's own permissions, the groups they belong to, the modules they can use, and the dimension members they can see, such as specific clients or projects. Two people can open the same module and see different records because of this.

Example: a new field technician

A firm hires a field technician for its sampling team. The administrator creates the user with a field role, adds him to the field team group, and gives him access to the projects he works on. On his first day, he sees his tasks and records his time, and the invoices and financial widgets stay out of his view.

What you can do next

  1. Permissions and access control to understand how access is decided.
  2. User management to add your first users.
  3. Role defaults and maximums to choose the right role for each person.
