Record your first time entry

This page walks you through recording your hours in the weekly view of the Time tab. The weekly view works like a timesheet, and it is the recommended way to record time in EVX Software.

Open your timesheet

TimeWeekly view

The current week opens with your name selected. Use the arrows next to the dates to move to another week.

You record your own time. Super administrators can also select another person and record time for them.

Find your task

Tasks assigned to you with dates in the current week are already listed, under Tasks assigned to your name for this week.

For any other task, go to Time worked on tasks not planned for you this week, choose the task in Select a task, and click Add row.

Enter your hours

  1. On the task's row, click the cell for the day you worked.
  2. Type the hours as hours and minutes, for example 04:00.
  3. Press Tab or click outside the cell. The day's total and the week's total update.
  4. To add a description, click the note icon next to the cell.
  5. Enter what you did in Description, check the other details, and click Save.

The note icon next to each cell holds the entry's details.

The details window shows:

FieldWhat it is
Start time and End timeWhen you worked. They fill in from the work day hours in your preferences.
DescriptionWhat you did, in a short sentence your project manager can follow.
Labor categoriesThe kind of work, taken from the task. It sets the hourly rate.
BillableWhether these hours are billed to the client, taken from the task.
Add more hoursAdds another time entry for the same task and day.

The start and end times come from the work day hours in your preferences.

Check your week

The Total row shows your hours for each day, and Total for the week shows the whole week. Check them before you finish the week.

The Total row and the Total for the week column add up your hours.

If your firm approves time

Some firms review hours before they are billed. If yours does, submit your time once your week is complete, and your approver reviews it. See Submitting time.

Other ways to record time

Every way records the same time entries:

  • From an open task: Add worked hours or Start clock, under Work performed. See Tracking time in tasks.
  • From the task list: a quick action button on each task, if your task preferences show it.
  • From the list view of the Time tab: to review entries, or to record time that is not tied to a task. See Tracking time from the Time module.

Frequently asked questions

Should I track time from the task or from the Time module?

The recommended way is the weekly view in the Time module. It works like a timesheet: your tasks for the week are listed, and you enter your hours day by day. See Weekly View Matrix.

The other ways record the same time entries and fit specific moments:

  • From an open task, with Add worked hours or Start clock, when you log hours as you work. See Tracking time in tasks.
  • From the task list, with a quick action button, if your task preferences show it.
  • From the list view of the Time module, to review entries or to record time that is not tied to a task. See Tracking time from the Time module.

What should I check before submitting time or expenses?

Review each entry for:

  • The date.
  • The project and task.
  • The labor category.
  • The hours or the amount.
  • The billable status.
  • A clear description of the work or cost.
  • Supporting documents, such as receipts.

See Submitting time and Submitting and approving expenses.
